Legendary reggae icons, Thrid World rocked the crowd on night two of the World Creole Music Festival. The thirty-eight year old band performed several of their popular hits ‘Sense of Purpose’, ‘Reggae Ambassador’ and their remake of The O’Jays’ ‘Now that we found love’. During their performance they paid tribute to the late great Gregory Issacs.
Ivory Coast native, Dobet Gnahore who is noted for being one of the best dancers in recent times, had the crowd screaming and ecstatic when she danced in between her performance. Dobet who has been an artist since her teenage years displayed her many talents when she played several instruments on stage. She solicited the help of the crowd for much of her performance.
The famous sounds of the voices behind the Kassav band, Jean Phillipe Marthely and Joycelyn Beroard thrilled the patrons gathered for night two of WCMF 2011. The crowd sang along with the artists to their popular songs. Continuing with the real creole aspect of night two was haitian kompa band Carimi. The band who claims Dominica as their second home lived up to the crowds expectations. Carimi who is celebrating their 10th anniversary of existence performed songs such as ‘buzz’, ‘ayiti bang bang’ and ‘are you ready.’
Night three climaxed with the legendary dominican cadancelypso band Midnight Groovers. Groovers grooved patrons into what Dominicans call ‘an easy daybreak’ with renditions of the popular ‘pou yon coco’, ‘malaway’, ‘milk and honey’, and ‘toute homme se homme aba soliel la.’
When the curtains went down on night two patrons scurried down to the bayfront to participate in one of the festivals side events Creole Bord La Mer (Creole by the Bay).
