Legendary Voice of UB40, Huge Disappointment on Night One WCMF 2011

Over the period October 28th-30th the Dominica staged the 15th annual World Creole Music Festival. One of the headline acts for the three night event was Ali Campbell, the legendary voice of UB4o. Campbell however, didn’t live up to his fans expectations on night one of the event. There seemed to be mixed reactions coming from patrons gathered. Whilst they screamed and sang along to the popular songs such as ‘red red wine’, some were still heard giving the occasion boo when Campbell glanced at what appeared to be a teleprompter propped on a speaker at the front of the stage.

During Campbell’s performance, media personnel were advised that they were not allowed to take full frontal photos of the artist. Patrons and photographers however,  may have breached that agreement resulting in Campbell claiming that his rights had been violated. Campbell refused to do any flash interviews or the post performance press conference. He walked out of the Windsor Park stadium immediately after the performance. Media personnel gathered waiting reactions from the artist were highly disappointed.

However, despite the uninspiring performance of Ali Campbell, strong performances from Kolo Barst of Martinique, Harmonik of Haiti and especially Jeff Joseph of Grammacks Fame, ensured a successful night one of WCMF 2011.

The Bouyon Pioneers, 25 years and counting WCK Band of Dominica took the event into the wee hours of the morning to climax a successful, fun filled and wet night one of the three day event.
